Calling all Dunes Volunteers! Come join the Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative and Lane County Parks on Saturday, December 2 to remove invasive Scotch broom and small trees from the Three Mile Prairie County Park in Florence, OR. This event will take place from 10 a.m. to Noon. The Three Mile Prairie site provides good habitat for dunes-adapted native plants and wildlife, but is threatened by invasive weeds and vegetation. Three Mile Prairie County Park is located just north of Florence Golf Links and west of Hwy 101 at Fred Meyer. It is a 15 minute walk from the northwest corner of the Fred Meyer parking lot to the work site over some sand and fairly level ground.

Mark your calendars for the January 11th meeting of City Club of Florence when the keynote speaker will be Dina Pavlis who will share about the history, geology, topography, wildlife of the Oregon dunes as well as current threats facing the dunal ecosystem. For more than twenty years, Pavlis has served as a U.S. Forest Service volunteer interpretive ranger of the Oregon dunes on Oregon’s central coast. She has been featured on Oregon Public Broadcasting's "Think Out Loud" and NPR's "Oregon Grapevine. She is a featured presenter for Road Scholar (RoadScholar.org) and member of the Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative (SaveOregonDunes.org). [...]

Come celebrate Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative's 100th Volunteer Event!!! We need your help pulling Scotch broom at the Oregon Dunes Day Use Area, Saturday, May 11 starting at 10 AM. We will be pulling broom for approximately an hour, then there will be a guided hike from 11 to 12:15 led by local author and dunes interpretative guide, Dina Pavlis! Dina will lead us through the dunes to a ghost forest, exploring native plants along the way. She will also discuss the topography, geology and history of the Oregon dunes.
