Come join local volunteers and members of the Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative on Friday, June 1, at Lagoon Campground at Siltcoos Recreation Area south of Florence to help remove invasive Scotch broom. Time: 10:00 AM to Noon, or a little later if we are close to being done with the patch.

We will be pulling/cutting large and small plants Scotch broom plants. Note, this work area is mostly flat with some small hills. We are working close to where we are parking (unless you park outside the campground, then there is a short walk to the work area).

BRING: Loppers, shovels, tree saws, gloves. Long pants and closed-toe shoes recommended as are sunscreen and water (extra water if it is hot). Friendly dogs welcome on leash.

If you are parking with our group in the campground, no recreational pass or parking pass will be required. If you plan to park outside the campground, please bring your pass.

This event is being hosted by the Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative (SaveOregonDunes.org) and the U.S. Forest Service.

Directions (below and also a map will be posted with the event):

Take Hwy 101 south from Florence to Siltcoos Recreation Area (approx. 1 to 2 miles south of Dunes City); watch for the road sign that says “Siltcoos Beach & Campground.” There is a right-turn lane at this location (and it is directly across from, to the WEST of, Siltcoos Lake Trail). Turn right (west) and go to Lagoon Campground (this is the FIRST campground on the right). Turn right into campground. Pass the campground host trailer and parking will be a little bit farther and on the RIGHT. There is limited parking so carpool if you can. If this parking area fills up, you may park in empty camp spots or park at the Waxmyrtle trailhead across the bridge on the main road and then walk back into Lagoon Campground. If you arrive on time (a bit before 10), we will be there to help you with parking.
