The National Weather Service is predicting mostly sunny skies and a high of 58, so it will be a beautiful day to join Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaboration volunteers in removing gorse plants from Heceta Dunes. We will meet at the east end of Joshua Lane. We will work from 10 to noon with light refreshments following the work party. You are welcome to leave early or work longer. The gorse plants are near the eastern sand sheet, so we will be walking about 20 to 30 minutes to get there. It is mostly level ground but there are a couple of dunes to cross.

BRING: loppers, shovels, tree saws. Gorse sprouts back from the stump so we will be digging out the stump after cutting the plant down. Gorse also has spikes on the stem, so bring leather or sturdy gloves if you have them. Bring water and a hat, long pants and sturdy shoes are recommended.

DIRECTIONS: From Florence, take Hwy 101 NORTH, Turn LEFT onto Heceta Beach Rd., Turn RIGHT on 4th St. and go to the end. Turn RIGHT on Joshua Lane and go to the end. (Please don’t block driveways, mailboxes, or fire hydrants.)
