Join Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative volunteers to remove Scotch broom at Heceta Dunes on Saturday, July 20 from 10AM to Noon. This work party is one of the many volunteer activities that are part of Power of Florence, a community-wide volunteer day. If you can only make one work party a year, this is the one! We will be meeting at the east end of Joshua Lane to head out to the work site.

If you need to leave early or want to work later, you are welcome to do so. We will be working on the flat out to the tree island removing small plants that have come up from where we have worked in the past. If we have time, we can work further out in the open dunes. It is a short hike on relatively level ground.

Heceta Dunes is one of the “Protect the Best” sites due to the open sand sheets and native grasses. Armand Rebischke, restoration botanist for the Siuslaw National Forest, will lead a hike after the work party to view this area. The hike will be approximately 1.5 hours.

BRING: shovels or spades, loppers, tree saws, gloves, and drinking water. Sturdy closed-toe shoes, long pants, and a hat are recommended. Friendly dogs on a leash are welcome. A limited number of tools will be available to borrow if you need them.

DIRECTIONS: From Florence, take Highway 101 NORTH. Turn LEFT on Heceta Beach Road. Turn RIGHT on 4th Avenue. Turn RIGHT on Joshua Lane…drive to the east end of Joshua Lane for parking (Please do not block driveways, mail boxes or fire hydrants).
