Please join Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative volunteers as they join forces with McKenzie River Trust and Siuslaw Watershed Council volunteers to remove gorse plants at Heceta Dunes on Friday, May 8 from 10am to 12:30pm. For those interested, after the work party we will explore the nearby dunes to see native plants and grasses.
We will meet at the east end of Joshua Lane. It is about a 30 minute hike over one dune and then moderate slopes to the work site. All are welcome to come join us, and we encourage you to share this event with friends and family!
BRING: shovels and hoes work well for the small plants and loppers, tree saws, and shovels work well for the larger plants. Gorse sprouts back so larger plants need to have the root balls dug out. Bring leather gloves if you have them, gorse has nasty thorns. Bring drinking water and a snack. Sturdy closed-toe shoes, long pants, and a hat are recommended. A limited number of tools and gloves will be available to borrow if you need them.
DIRECTIONS: From Florence, take Highway 101 North, turn LEFT on Heceta Beach Rd., go 1.9 miles and turn RIGHT on 4th St., go to the end and turn RIGHT on to Joshua Lane, and go to the end. You can ignore the No Parking signs, but please don’t block driveways and mailboxes.
